Plus Fitness is an Australian owned brand of gyms with around 180 locations around the country. They focus on providing customers with the option of no lock-in contracts, 24/7 access and relatively low-cost membership.

Plus Fitness is a great option if you’re looking for a basic, affordable gym that doesn’t lock you in long-term. This makes it perfect if you’re looking to dip your toe in the water for the first time. It also provides flexibility if you want to train close to home and work as you can access all Plus Fitness locations.

You do need to keep in mind that low-cost gyms generally don’t provide beginners with a lot of support in terms of staff contact. Staffed hours are limited and they can often be there for administrative purposes rather than to help you with your training. For extra support, you’ll usually have to pay for personal training.

Plus Fitness operates under a franchise model which means each location is individually owned. Whilst many things are common across all clubs, you will find some small differences including membership fees and the type and cost of group training. Owners can heavily influence the atmosphere and general environment at each location. This is particularly the case for Plus Fitness. Some owners go above and beyond to provide additional services to members while others keep things basic. It’s therefore important to realise that a good or bad experience at one location isn’t always representative of all Plus Fitness clubs.

Facilities and Services

All Plus Fitness locations provide a variety of equipment to suit most training styles and needs. Cardio zones have the usual cross-trainers, bikes, rowers, steppers and treadmills. There are free-weights with dumbbells, barbells and various benches if you’re looking to do strength training. You’ll also find a variety of pin-loaded weight machines that are great for beginner to intermediate level weight training. Open areas for stretching and bodyweight exercises are also available. Some locations also provide functional training zones with TRX, kettlebells, medicine balls, bands, battle ropes, etc. In addition, free, personalised fitness programs are available which is great if it’s your first time at a gym.

Most low-cost gyms are able to keep their prices low by not providing expensive, premium services like group training classes. Plus Fitness gets around this to some extent by providing “classes on-demand”. These classes are held in small studios and provide 16 different styles of virtual training classes 24 hours a day. Some of the virtual classes offered include spin, yoga, boxing and many more. If you’d rather experience face-to-face group training, “Master” classes are also provided with personal trainers at an additional cost to your membership. If group training classes are important, you also should consider other options like Fitness First, Fernwood, Genesis, Goodlife or Virgin Active. Alternatively, there are many independent gym options that you can easily find in your local area using our map-based search tool.

For an additional cost on top of your membership, you can access personal training services. Each club has its own group of Personal Trainers (PT) operating out of the facility and each PT can specialise in different areas. If using a PT is going to be a core part of your training, it’s best to do some research to see if the PT’s operating out of your preferred club meet your specific requirements. The good thing about Plus Fitness is their no lock-in contracts mean that if you can’t find a PT that you like, you can always cancel your membership and try another gym.

Plus Fitness gyms provide water fountains, sanitising wipes and toilets. You’ll also find change rooms and shower facilities which make it easy to train either before work, after work or during a lunch break.

The Plus Fitness app provides information on class timetables, fitness goals, in-club challenges and more to help you on your fitness journey. It also links to many popular fitness trackers and apps.

Opening Hours

Plus Fitness is open for you to train 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, you will need to check with your local club if you require support as the staffed hours for each club can be different and in many cases, quite limited. You will often see personal trainers around the gym with their clients, even outside of staffed hours. If you have an urgent question when there are no staff present, you can always ask them. Access to the gym outside of staffed hours is via a security tag or card and there are security cameras and emergency numbers to call in case of an emergency.

Age Restrictions

Plus Fitness provides junior memberships for those aged 8-13 years. Youth memberships are also available for 14-15 year-olds. If you’re under 16 years of age, access to the facility is restricted to staffed hours which can be quite limited. A better option for 14-15 year-olds is Jetts as their staffed hours are usually more extensive. There are no training or access restrictions for anyone aged 16 and over. Parental consent is required for all members under the age of 18 years.

Plus Fitness Pricing

Plus Fitness membership costs can depend on the club but are usually between $27.90 per fortnight (about $60 per month) and $33.90 per fortnight ($74 per month). Cheaper rates are usually available for youths and seniors.

A joining fee of $99 is applicable. You’ll also have to pay an Access Card fee which can vary by club. Special offers can sometimes result in these fee being waived or reduced so remember to ask before you join. You can also see the latest deals by checking out our latest offers page.

No lock-in contracts are available. You can also suspend your membership for up to 3 months a year at no additional cost.

A free trial is usually available.

Is there a cooling-off period on my Plus Fitness membership agreement?

Yes, you can cancel your membership during the 7-day cooling-off period. The 7-day period ends at the close of business on the 7th day after the Commencement Date of your Membership Agreement. If you exercise your cooling-off rights, all fees will be refunded other than the Access Card Fee.

How do I cancel my Plus Fitness membership?

You can only cancel your membership by going into your home Plus Fitness club and completing a "Plus Fitness cancellation form". The cancellation will then take effect 14 days after the written notice has been received. The 14-day period is equivalent to a single fortnightly membership payment cycle.

Can I cancel my Plus Fitness membership for medical reasons?

Yes, you can cancel your membership immediately upon the presentation of a medical certificate.

Can I put my Plus Fitness membership on hold?

You may put your Membership on Time Hold for a minimum period of two weeks (1 payment cycle) and a maximum period of three months (6 payment cycles) in each year. Each year commences on the anniversary of the Commencement Date of your Membership Agreement. You must complete a request for Time Hold in-person at your home club. Your Time Hold will commence from the date your next direct debit payment would have been due.

Can I transfer my Plus Fitness membership to another person?

You can request to have your membership transferred to another person by asking in-person at your home club. The person you transfer the membership to will take on all the obligations of that membership for the remainder of the minimum term of your agreement.

Is there a limit to how often I can train at other Plus Fitness locations?

There isn't a limit to how often you can train at other clubs but if you attend a club other than your "home" club more than 60% of the time in any given month, your membership may get transferred to that club. Your membership fees will then reflect the fees charged by that club and it will become your new "home" club.

Great Gym

So much space to train. Equipment is new! And it doesn’t get super busy because it’s open 24/7, so I don’t have to wait around for equipment. Staff are also so lovely
