Goodlife Health Clubs is a mid to premium level “health-club” style gym with more than 80 locations spread across Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia. They have a large range of services available to help you on your fitness journey and provide this for a reasonable price and in a friendly, non-intimidating environment.

The video below gives a good, high-level introduction to the Goodlife customer proposition.

Facilities and Services

All Goodlife Health Clubs provide a large variety of equipment to suit most training styles and needs. Cardio zones have plenty of the usual cross-trainers, bikes, rowers, steppers and treadmills. There are free weights with dumbbells, barbells and various benches if you’re looking to do strength training. You’ll also find a variety of pin and plate-loaded weight machines that are great for beginner to intermediate level weight training. Extensive open areas for stretching and bodyweight exercises are also available. Functional training zones are usually provided with TRX, kettlebells, medicine balls, bands, battle ropes, etc.

Some clubs come equipped with premium services like swimming pools, sauna’s, tennis courts and squash courts. You’ll also find a creche service and on-site cafe at some locations.

For female’s looking to train in a less intimidating environment, some clubs also have dedicated Ladies Only training areas.

There are more than 60 different group classes provided at Goodlife Health Clubs. You’ll find barre, LesMills, pilatesyogaHIIT, Zumba, RPM and Body Pump to name just a few. Some specialised clubs also provide reformer pilates classes. For a full list of class types, refer to the Goodlife Health Clubs website and filter for the club you’re interested in joining. The type of classes and the timetable for each session can be different for each club. You need to make sure you find out what your local club provides before joining.

A number of locations provide access to HYPOXI – a low impact exercise method that claims to shift stubborn fat fast and significantly reduce cellulite. It combines advanced vacuum and compression technology and healthy nutrition to supercharge your body’s natural fat burning system.

Many locations also support Arena Fitness classes. Access to these classes requires Black level membership (the most expensive). Arena Fitness is a coach-led HIIT, functional and boxing led training program designed to burn fat, build strength and improve fitness in a motivating, team-training environment.

For an additional cost on top of your membership, you can access personal training services. Each club has its own group of Personal Trainers (PT) operating out of the facility and each PT can specialise in different areas. If using a PT is going to be a core part of your training, it’s best to do some research to see if the PT’s operating out of your preferred club meet your specific requirements. Unlike many smaller gyms, most Goodlife Health Clubs have a large number of PT’s operating from the facility. As a result, finding one that meets your needs should be fairly straight forward.

Goodlife Health Clubs provide water fountains, sanitising wipes and toilets. You’ll also find excellently appointed change rooms and shower facilities with lockers which make it easy to train either before work, after work or during a lunch break.

Opening Hours

Goodlife Health Clubs provide 24/7 access to members for training purposes at many of their clubs. Check with your local club to see if they provide this service. Staff are not on-site 24/7 however. Like most health club-style gyms, staffed hours are quite good, usually ranging from early morning into the evening on weekdays with weekends being slightly less.

Age Restrictions

Goodlife Health Club membership is open to anyone 14 years and up. Children 13 years and under can train only if they are supervised by a suitably qualified personal trainer. All members under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign the membership agreement and pre-exercise questionnaire.

14 year-olds can attend Goodlife Health Clubs during staffed hours only and must be either accompanied by a parent or directly supervised by a personal trainer. They are free to use cardiovascular equipment that don’t include weights (including water-based classes). They can only do weight or boxing-style exercises under the direct supervision of a personal trainer.

15 year-olds can only attend during staffed hours but are free to train without parental or personal trainer supervision. They can perform cardio-based training but are limited to pin-loaded machines only for weight training. They can attend all classes other than those that rely on weights. Access to HYPOXI and Arena Fitness is allowed.

Members aged 16-17 can do unsupervised resistance training once a qualified staff member has assessed the pre-exercise questionnaire and written and supervised an initial training program. Access to the club is only allowed during staffed hours.

Goodlife Health Club Pricing

As a new Goodlife Health Club member, you’ll need to pay a $99 joining fee although this can sometimes be waived if there is a special offer. You should always ask about waiving any start-up fees before you join. There are 3 levels of membership available and you can join on either a 6, 12 or 18-month contract (depending on the membership level) or on a month-to-month basis. Signing a long-term contract will significantly reduce the membership cost. It is usually a good idea to ask about a free trial before you commit long-term to ensure the gym you’re joining is right for you. Casual passes from 1 day to 8 weeks are also available and can range from around $20 to $300 depending on the length of the pass and the level of services you get access to.

Blue membership is the basic level and starts at $17.99 per week on an 18-month contract. There is an option for a shorter 12-month contract for $19.99 per week. Paying on a month-to-month basis costs $25.99 per week. In addition to the weekly costs, there is also a $9.99 coaching fee that must be paid every 3 months. Blue membership only entitles you to use your home club so if you plan on accessing multiple locations, you’ll need to consider other levels of membership. As a Blue member, you will be charged a fee of $5 per week to freeze your membership for up to 4 weeks during the year if you’re unable to attend the gym for various reasons like travelling. You also can’t access premium services like Arena Fitness on a Blue membership.

Platinum membership provides access to all clubs and you don’t need to pay the quarterly coaching fee saving you around $40 per year. Pricing starts at $20.99 per week on an 18-month contract. A 12-month contract is priced at $22.99 per week or you can pay $27.99 per week on a month-to-month basis. As a Platinum member, you can put your membership on hold for up to 4 weeks during the year at no cost if you’re unable to attend the gym for an extended period. You are not able to attend Arena Fitness classes on a Platinum level membership.

The highest level of membership is Black and it comes with all the bells and whistles. Black membership provides access to all clubs and includes unlimited Arena Fitness classes as well as YogaBox and Reformer Pilates. Pricing starts at $27.99 per week on a 12-month contract or $29.99 for a 6-month contract. Paying month-to-month will set you back $39.99 per week. Ensure you check with your local club to see if they provide premium services like Arena Fitness before committing to a Black membership.

Always look out for special offers. You can do this by following the Goodlife Facebook or Instagram pages (see buttons above) or by checking our latest offers page.

Best value for money gym

So you get a massive gym, 40 classes a week and 24/7 access for less than $15 a week. I would have no problem paying $30 a week for a place like this. Happy to lock in a long term membership with how friendly the staff are. Any equipment problems just spoke to the manager and fixed as soon as possible. Old school gym that lets you train for all conditions, cold in winter, hot in summer, love it.
