F45 Training was established in 2012 in Australia and has grown into a global success story. It focuses on group-based, functional, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions that last 45 minutes – hence the name F45. This approach is an extremely efficient method of training and aims to burn up to 750 calories per session.
The F45 concept is simple: their studios all over the world offer a 45-minute high intensity, circuit training workout class for members fully supervised by instructors. Their studios offer the same class at different times throughout the day. Every day throughout the week offers a different 45-minute workout. The workouts are created by the F45 Athletics and Peak Performance Department from a database of over 3,000 different exercises, so members never get the same workout twice.
F45 workouts are designed in a way that can be easily modified to suit your level of training. This allows beginners as well as intermediate and experienced trainers to perform the same program at the same time.
F45 operates under a franchise model with each studio individually owned. Whilst many things are common across all studios, you will find some differences in things like costs, class times, class frequency and the type, quality and age of equipment provided. The atmosphere and general environment at each studio are also heavily influenced by the owner. It’s therefore important to realise that a good or bad experience at one studio isn’t always representative of all F45’s.
Facilities and Services
F45 is a class-based training facility which means you can’t just turn up and do your own individual workout. If you’re looking for a gym with the flexibility to train whenever you like based on your own individual training program, then you should consider other options. If however, you want a constantly varied workout with many of the benefits of personal training, then F45 could be a great option for you.
The equipment used in F45 classes is designed for circuit-based functional training. You’ll therefore find plenty of battle-ropes, sleds, kettlebells, skipping ropes, plyometric boxes, etc as well as more traditional equipment like rowers, bikes and free weights. This type of equipment is usually easy to use and often mimics the actions we use in everyday life. This makes functional training great for strengthening your overall body and reducing your chance of injury.
There are 4 main styles of workouts at F45.
- Cardio workouts are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;
- Resistance workouts are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays;
- Hybrid classes that combine cardio and resistance elements are on Saturdays; and
- Recovery classes that focus on stretching and mobility run on Saturdays and Sundays.
This structure allows you to go to classes virtually every day whilst giving your body time to recover between resistance sessions.
It’s important to note that when you join an F45 studio, you can only attend classes at that studio. Your membership or visitor passes don’t give you access to other F45 studios. Therefore, if you want to use a different studio, your best option is usually to pre-purchase a casual pass or get a discounted group of visitor passes. You should always check with the studio you’d like to train at as each studio has different options for casual visitors and some don’t offer casual or visitor passes at all.
F45 Training is not like a normal gym. To find out when you can train, you must check with your local studio’s class timetable. Classes usually run every 45 minutes in the morning, at lunchtime and after work. Weekend classes may only run at limited times.
You must be a minimum of 16 years of age to join F45 Training classes.

Membership and Pricing Guide
F45 Training has several memberships and casual pass options available. Pricing can vary as each F45 studio is individually owned. You can usually commit for 3, 6 or 12 months at reduced rates of between $55 and $66 per week ($237-$286 per month). Some locations provide casual passes (around $35 per visit). Discounted 10 or 20 visit passes (around $300 and $500 respectively) are also available at many studios. Whilst the costs are much higher than most gyms, F45 Training is more like a cross between group and personal training. When compared with the cost of 2-3 personal training sessions per week, F45 Training begins to look much more cost-effective.

What is the minimum age to join F45?
