Anytime Fitness is the largest gym brand in Australia with around 500 locations across all states and over 500,000 members. They also have 4,000+ gyms located around the world. When you join as a member, you get access to all of their clubs worldwide.

With so many clubs and 24/7 access with security monitoring, Anytime Fitness easily works around your lifestyle. There is a strong focus on value with a friendly atmosphere and good facilities combined with a relatively low membership cost. This is great for people who have simple requirements or are self-sufficient in their training needs. If you’re inexperienced and aren’t looking to invest in a personal trainer or you’re looking to join a full-service ‘health club’, you probably won’t find the support you’re looking for.

Anytime Fitness operates under a franchise model which means each location is individually owned. Whilst many things are common across all clubs, you will find some differences in things like staffed hours, membership cost and the type, quality and age of equipment provided. The atmosphere and general environment at each location are also heavily influenced by the owner. It’s therefore important to realise that a good or bad experience at one location isn’t always representative of all clubs.

Facilities and Services

All Anytime Fitness locations provide a variety of equipment to suit most training styles and needs. Cardio zones have cross-trainers, bikes, steppers and treadmills as standard. For weight-training there are free-weights with dumbbells, barbells and various benches. You’ll also find a variety of pin-loaded weight machines that are great for beginner to intermediate level training. An open area is also available for stretching and bodyweight exercises. A number of locations also provide functional training zones with TRX, kettlebells, medicine balls, bands, battle ropes, etc.

Group training classes are not part of the Anytime Fitness proposition and it’s one of the ways they are able to keep their membership costs relatively low. You can sometimes find small group training organised through personal trainers that operate out of Anytime Fitness clubs. If you really like the idea of group training, then it’s probably best that you look at other options in your local area.

Personal training is available at Anytime Fitness but is an additional cost on top of your membership. Each club has its own group of Personal Trainers (PT) operating out of the facility and each PT can specialise in different areas. If using a PT is going to be a core part of your training, it’s best to do some research to see if the PT’s operating out of your preferred club meet your specific requirements. You can also get a PT session during the free trial period offered by Anytime Fitness. This will help you determine whether it’s worth locking yourself into a longer-term contract. Free trial periods are usually for 7 days.

Anytime Fitness gyms provide water fountains, sanitising wipes and toilets. You’ll also find change rooms and shower facilities which make it easy to train either before work, after work or during a lunch break. Clubs usually provide vending machines with drinks and high protein snacks. Protein supplements are often available for purchase.

Opening Hours

Anytime Fitness is open for you to train 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, you will need to check with your local club if you require support as the staffed hours for each club can be different and in many cases, quite limited. You will often see personal trainers around the gym, even outside of staffed hours.

Age Restrictions

Most Anytime Fitness clubs allow 16 and 17-year-olds to join with consent from a parent or guardian as long as they agree to a set of special conditions designed for safety. The main difference for underage members is they can only enter the facility during staffed hours. Younger members can find this a challenge as Anytime Fitness staffed hours are quite restricted compared to other gyms. You will often find limited hours on Friday nights and on weekends. You will probably find less restrictive options (with a lower joining age and increased access) at other gyms. For members aged 18 years and over, there are no restrictions.

Anytime Fitness Pricing

Ongoing costs vary depending on your plan and location but usually range from $65-$71 per month.

Is there a cooling-off period in the contract?

There is a 7-day cooling-off period which means you can cancel your contract with no penalty within 7 days of the start date. You must provide written notice of your intention to cancel within the 7 day period to qualify. Joining and membership fees will be refunded. The cost of the FOB/Access Card is not refundable.

How soon can I access other Anytime Fitness clubs after joining as a member?

You must wait 31 days before you can access clubs other than your ‘home’ club.

Once I join, can I use other Anytime Fitness clubs as often as I want?

If you use another club more than your ‘home’ club for at least 2 consecutive 30 day periods, your membership may be transferred to that club. This may impact your membership fees if they are different from those of your ‘home’ club.

Can I cancel my Anytime Fitness membership within the contract period?

You can cancel for non-medical reasons but will need to pay a cancellation fee. This is the higher of 50% of the membership fees due for the remainder of the minimum term of your contract or 1 month of membership fees.

Can I cancel my membership within the contract period if I have a medical condition?

You can cancel your contract for medical reasons (serious illness or permanent physical incapacity) if approved by a doctor. You will need to pay an administration fee which is equal to 1 month of membership fees.

How do I cancel my membership after the minimum term of my contract?

Once you’ve completed the minimum term of your contract, you can cancel any time with 30 days written notice.

Can I put my membership on hold?

You can put your membership on hold up to twice a year for a total of 3 months. There may be a fee of $2.50 per week for this service. You must put your membership on hold for a minimum of one month at a time. You can extend the hold period for travel, hardship or health reasons when sufficient proof is provided.
